Spotify Wants to be a Platform, Launches Third-Party App Support

Spotify wants to be a music platform, if not THE music platform. Today they announced the launch of Spotify Platform which is nothing else that allowing third party apps to tap into Spotify's API for different purposes.

On stage today, Spotify's CEO Daniel Ek show apps from the Rolling Stones, which gives Spotify users an editorial voice to music and also playlists curated by the Rolling Stones staff. It also showed apps from Last.fm and TuneWiki. Other apps included in the first generation of the platform are:
- Billboard
- Fuse
- The Guardian
- Moodagent
- Pitchfork
- Songkick
- Soundrop
- We Are Hunted

Three apps will be available regionally:
- Tunigo in Sweden
- Gaffa in Denmark
- Dagbladet in Norway
Soon the Spotify Platform will be available as a preview by going to this link on Spotify's site. But you can learn more by going to this app section on the site.
Clearly Spotify wants to be the place to go for everything that has to do with music. Incorporating third party apps that can contribute to the music experience certainly is a great place to start.
